Sealing ducts in Las Vegas is a materials problem before it is anything else. The roll of foil tape from the hardware store, the gray cloth duct tape, the cheap mastic a previous contractor wiped on, all of it bakes loose in an attic that swings from comfortable in spring to 160 degrees by midsummer. The adhesive dries, the joint moves as the metal expands and contracts every single day, and within a couple of seasons the leak is back. So our duct sealing starts with materials that are rated for that thermal cycling, not whatever was on the truck.
We seal with two main methods, and which one we reach for depends on where the leak is. For accessible joints, take-offs, and equipment connections we apply UL-181 listed duct mastic, troweled into the seam and reinforced with mesh where the gap is wide. Mastic is a permanent, flexible seal that moves with the duct instead of cracking off it. For the leaks you cannot reach, the seams buried inside a chase or behind drywall, we use the Aeroseal aerosol process, which pressurizes the duct system and carries a sealant fog to the leaks from the inside, closing them without opening a wall.
Both methods get applied to a plan, not by feel. Our duct leakage testing tells us where the air is escaping before we seal a thing, so we are not chasing the obvious holes while a bigger one hides at the plenum. The part that separates real duct sealing from a quick caulk job is what happens after. We re-pressurize the system and re-measure the leakage rate, then compare it to the before number. You see the air loss drop on the instrument, so the work is verified rather than assumed. When the ducts are tight, the air your equipment paid to cool actually reaches your rooms, the system stops running to make up for the loss, and the difference tends to show up on the next NV Energy bill. Mastic on Accessible Joints
UL-181 listed duct mastic troweled into every reachable seam, take-off, and equipment connection, reinforced with fiberglass mesh where the gap is wide. It cures into a flexible seal that flexes with the duct through daily expansion instead of cracking off it.
Aeroseal for Hidden Leaks
For seams buried in a chase or behind drywall, the Aeroseal process pressurizes the duct system and suspends a sealant fog that finds the leaks from inside and bridges them. It seals what no trowel can reach, with no demolition.
Mechanical Repair First
Where a connection has physically separated, a flex run that pulled off a boot, a collapsed trunk, sealant is not the fix. We re-connect and fasten the ductwork mechanically first, then seal the joint, so the seal is supporting a sound connection rather than holding the duct together.
Desert-Rated Materials Only
Everything we leave in your attic is specified for the temperature it has to live in. No cloth tape, no consumer foil tape, nothing that bakes loose by the second summer. The materials are the reason the seal lasts past the warranty conversation.
Post-Seal Verification
When the sealing is done we re-pressurize the system and re-measure the leakage. The after number goes next to the before number, and the drop is your proof the work did what it was supposed to do.
Desert-Hardened Sealing
We use mastic and Aeroseal rated for extreme temperature cycling. Standard tape fails in Las Vegas attics within a season or two; our sealants are chosen for 160-degree environments.
Verified By Re-Test
