The Desert Duct Problem
Las Vegas attics hit 160 degrees and your ducts are
LEAKING
Precision diagnostics backed by 28 years of Clark County experience.

In Las Vegas, your ductwork runs through one of the harshest environments on earth — the attic. Summer attic temperatures routinely exceed 160 degrees, and your ducts are the only barrier between that furnace and the 75-degree air your system is trying to deliver. When those ducts leak — and studies show the average Las Vegas home loses 20 to 40 percent of conditioned air through duct leaks — the consequences are devastating to your comfort and your energy bills.

Duct leakage is invisible. You cannot see it, smell it, or hear it in most cases. The conditioned air simply escapes through gaps at joints, seams, and connections, pouring expensive cooled air into your attic, crawl space, or wall cavities where it does nothing for your comfort. Your HVAC system compensates by running longer and harder, driving up your NV Energy bill and shortening equipment life — all to cool spaces nobody occupies.

At Constant Air Balancing & Services, our NCI-certified duct leakage testing uses calibrated pressure testing equipment to measure exactly how much air your duct system is losing. We pressurize the duct system to a standard test pressure, measure the airflow required to maintain that pressure, and calculate the leakage rate as a percentage of total system airflow. This gives you a precise number — not an estimate or a guess — that quantifies the problem.

Once testing identifies the leakage locations and severity, our sealing process uses commercial-grade mastic, UL-listed tape, and aerosol-based internal sealant systems to permanently close every leak we find. After sealing, we re-test to verify the leakage rate has been reduced to acceptable levels. The result is measurable — your system delivers more conditioned air to your rooms, runs less to maintain temperature, and your energy bills drop. Most Las Vegas homeowners see the difference on their very next NV Energy statement.

PROCESS
NCI-certified methodology for every job.
01

System Assessment

We inspect accessible ductwork for visible damage, disconnected joints, deteriorated mastic, and failed tape. We also review your airflow data to identify registers that are receiving less air than expected.

02

Pressure Testing

Using calibrated equipment, we seal the registers and pressurize the duct system. The airflow required to maintain test pressure tells us exactly how much air the system is losing through leaks.

03

Leak Location

Using smoke testing, pressure mapping, and thermal imaging where appropriate, we identify the specific locations where conditioned air is escaping the duct system.

04

Sealing

We seal identified leaks using appropriate methods — UL-listed mastic for accessible joints, aerosol-based sealant for interior connections, and mechanical fasteners for structural separations.

05

Verification

After sealing, we re-pressurize and re-test to verify the leakage rate has been reduced to specification. You receive a report with before-and-after measurements documenting the improvement.

What sets us apart for
SEALED
The diagnostic-first difference.

Measured, Not Estimated

Our NCI-certified pressure testing gives you an exact leakage rate — a percentage that quantifies the problem and measures the improvement after sealing.

Desert-Hardened Sealing

We use materials rated for extreme temperature cycling. Standard tape fails in Las Vegas attics. Our sealants are designed for 160-degree environments.

Energy Savings You Can Measure

Sealing a 30 percent leaky duct system typically reduces cooling costs by 15 to 25 percent. In Las Vegas, where cooling runs six or more months, the savings compound fast.

Questions
What Las Vegas property owners ask about
ANSWERS
Common questions about duct leakage testing and sealing in Las Vegas.
How do I know if my ducts are leaking?
Common signs include rooms that never reach the right temperature, high energy bills despite newer equipment, dusty registers, and your HVAC system running constantly. The only way to know for certain is a duct pressure test.
How much air does the average Las Vegas home lose through ducts?
Studies show 20 to 40 percent of conditioned air is lost through duct leaks in typical homes. In older Las Vegas homes with original ductwork, losses can exceed 40 percent.
Can you seal ducts without tearing out drywall?
In most cases, yes. We seal accessible duct joints through attic access. For interior duct leaks that are not accessible, aerosol-based sealant systems can seal leaks from the inside without any wall demolition.
Is duct sealing worth the investment?
For most Las Vegas homes, duct sealing pays for itself within one to three cooling seasons through reduced energy costs. Plus, your rooms will finally reach the temperature your thermostat says they should be.
Should I seal ducts or replace my HVAC system?
Seal ducts first. A new HVAC system connected to leaky ducts wastes the same percentage of air as the old system did. Air balancing and duct sealing should always be done before or alongside system replacement.
